The best transmission for adventure riding on the LC4
This is the wide ration transmission for the KTM and Husqvarna LC4 engine and is available for all variants 2007-present day. It’s not just about gear ratios though, the Nova transmission benefits from years of experience in competition transmissions, right up to Moto GP. The Nova gearbox for the LC4 has strengthened shafts, improved bearing designs, improved dog design and phasing to remove false neutrals and ensure slick and precise shifting and low friction finishes to name a few. It is a completely redesigned and much improved transmission and probably one of the biggest single mechanical improvements you can make to the LC4 for Adventure. With hundreds of transmissions all over the world now and over 1 million miles recorded, we are more than confident in its reliability and performance.
I’ve been working closely with Nova Racing for years now to provide important feedback on the use of their wide ratio LC4 gearbox in the environment it was designed for ‘Adventure’. I’ve now put over 150,000km on my personal gearbox in some of the toughest conditions including serious technical adventure riding, rally racing and high speed travel conditions.
After lots of feedback and technical discussions with them, we opted to make some changes and release ‘B’ transmission into production in 2016 and now we are on type ‘C’, released in 2020 changing some key features to further improve durability after using important feedback from my high mileage transmission.
The ‘A’ spec gearbox was great and will continue to serve people who have them really well, as will the ‘B’ spec transmission but now all the developments are rolled into the ‘C’ spec and that is all that we supply now. It’s so nice to work with a company that want to continually improve their product and the understanding of how it works in the environment they were designed for.
To show Nova’s appreciation for the work I personally contributed to the project, Nova have made Lyndon Poskitt Racing the sole distributor globally for the LC4 gearboxes. The gearboxes come completely assembled as shown in the pictures, shot peened and super-finished, ready to install. It is a complete gearbox set with uprated main and output shafts and every component is new and manufactured or carefully selected by the Nova Racing engineers for optimal performance (no KTM OEM parts are used).
