Lyndon Poskitt – Dune To Dust Adventure Weekend with Nissan
A quick 3 day trip to a dry salt pan called Goerapan, 100km North of Upington, South Africa for a Nissan owners club meeting. I was invited last minute and figured a few days off the bike would be a welcome break and something different. The event was run in parallel with a local Rat Rod meet so there’s a bit or all sorts in this special feature. Naturally I joined forces with Red Lined Motorsport and we also took a T1 Dakar Spec Nissan Navara race car and a Nissan GTR (I know, the desert is no place for a GTR!). A lot of fun was had I was really amazed at the capabilities of the new Nissan Patrol production car off-road and also learnt a lot from driving a car in the dunes, very different to riding a bike.
When looking at the old images of the Paris-Dakar or the present day Dakar or Africa Eco Race, many of us are dreaming of being able to do that one day.
Maybe you are preparing to do just that and need training before the big event, or maybe you are not quite that world class racer but still want to live the experience and conquer those trails on a real factory rally bike. Maybe you just want to feel the rally without the pressure and dangers that go with it.
